About our Program

The Heart of Texas Crime Stoppers Program began in 1984.  Brownwood businessman and owner of W.T. Harris Company, Barton Harris had a sincere respect for the Law Enforcement mission.  His involvement in local Law Enforcement led to many special honors over the years. In 1984, Barton served on the inaugural board for Brown County Crime Stoppers.  After relentless years of dedication, that Crime Stoppers unit was expanded to a multi-county unit to include Mills County and Coleman County and is now known as Heart of Texas Crime Stoppers.  Barton perished in an aviation accident in 2010, in Eagle County, CO.

With the ongoing collaborative efforts of community representatives, and Brown county, Coleman county and Mills county law enforcement agencies, the Heart of Texas Crime Stoppers operates as an independent organization.  The concept has developed into a combination of efforts by local media, businesses, civic and social clubs, law enforcement agencies, and the public.  Donations of airtime, newspaper space, and reward monies have established the Heart of Texas Crime Stoppers organization as an effective tool to fight crime in these areas.
